My 54 Gallon Corner Tank
My 54 gallon tank currently houses 2 Fancy Fantail Goldfish and 1 Common Goldfish. It also houses 4 Peppered Cory Catfish. I have had the tank set up for a few years now. It has been a lot of hard work, but in the end it is well worth it. It is quite interesting as to how my family got started in keeping fish.
My next to youngest son went to a birthday party a few years ago and as a parting gift, he among the other guests, were given goldfish....Now I ask, WHY????? LOL
Anyway, I hate not knowing anything about animals that I have, so I did a lot of research on fish care....Boy was I amazed to learn everything needed to know in order to take care of this 1 fish....I guess other people don't think about things like that when they deal with live pets....Boy have we been through a lot since that 1 little itty bitty fish entered our home....
The only problem was that by the time I learned everything needed to take care of this fish, it was too late....1 hour before the 10 gallon fish tank was ready to house fish, the fish died due to lack of oxygen and poor water quality....Now what do you do with an empty tank and an upset 7yr old boy???? You go out and buy a new fish, thats what!!!!!
Now the more research I do on goldfish and then realising I had bought a Fancy Fantailed Red Ryukin Goldfish and not a Common Goldfish, I learn that they require a whole lot more water and maintance....
Now, problem number 2, Since we had 1 fish for 1 child.....guess what happens next....All the kids now want a fish of their own....So instead of getting 4 separate 10 gallon tanks....I invested in a 54 gallon corner setup so that I could house enough fish and still have great water quality for everyone!!!! Yay!!!!!
However, guess who gets to pay for all this and do the proper tank maintance???? Yep, you guessed it, "MOM" does!!!!! Lucky me!!!!
Now, problem number 3....Since we have the big tank for the goldfish, we now have an empty 10 gallon tank....So I went back to the pet store and looked for a fish that "I" really liked for myself....Which is where my Blue Male Betta (Cookie Monster) came into the family picture.
